To my lovely husband who crossed the ocean to live in Japan

My husband is a Texan (he says it’s different than just being from Texas) who moved to New York City after college with nothing but a suitcase and a dog. He built a good career life there. Then, in the midst of his successful career, he left the corporate world and became a bartender just to see what it was like. He then made his way to eventually work for himself. And oh, he happens to also be a great writer (『Jubilee: The Heist to Erase Debt』by Joseph Preacher). What I am trying to convey is that he really knows how to hustles.

This man, after having lived in New York for 10 years, told me it was a good time for us to cross the ocean and move to Japan. I had been wanting to do so to raise our child while living near my parents. We loved living in Manhattan, and could have stayed, but when considering options for raising our son, he considered crossing the ocean preferable to crossing either rivers to the outer boroughs.

Both of us believe in the the phrase of one song: “if I can make it here I can make it anywhere….” Our life after leaving New York has been amazing. I don’t know how he enjoys living in Japan without knowing much Japanese, but we are happier than ever.

To my husband who inspires and encourages me to do whatever my heart desires, THANK YOU. I love you and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you.
